Register. Email as Username

Hello,

I try to use the Email Address as Username, but this does not work.

function user_meta_after_user_register_function( $response ){
	$userID = $response->ID;
	$new_user_login = $_POST['user_email'];
	wp_update_user( array ( 'ID' => $userID, 'user_login' => $new_user_login ) );
}

add_action( 'user_meta_after_user_register', 'user_meta_after_user_register_function' );

It cuts the Email Address before the @ sign and just uses this for the user_login.

When I use the Username in the registration it takes the Email Address.

Maybe I need an action before or during registration?

Hello,
user_meta_after_user_register hook won’t work for changing username. You can use following hook:

add_filter( 'user_meta_pre_user_register', 'user_meta_pre_user_register_function' );
function user_meta_pre_user_register_function( $userData ){
    $userData[ 'user_login' ] = $_POST['user_email'];
    return $userData;
}

I think this is what I need as well, I want to ask for an email address at registration which will be used as their username and email address in the background.

Put this code in the FUNCTIONS.PHP of your theme or child-theme
