Hook into user registration/login process?

Is there a way to hook into the response that is returned when a user logs in or registers (via ajax) so that I can open a modal window for example on user sign in?

Hello, We have an action hook after registration:

“user_meta_after_user_register” this hook allow one parameter: $user object

you can use WordPress hook “wp_login” to get login response.
