Can we Eliminate Usernames & only use email address for Registration & Login?

Is there a way to force WordPress to NOT use a Username for new registrations? Since User Meta Pro provides the option to allow users to Log in using “only” the email address, I wanted to set up my site so that user’s never provide a Username at the time of registration and will only use an email address to log into my site. I thought by not including the Username field on my registration form it would create a user with a blank Username. Instead when I registered a test user and looked at the user in WordPress, the Username was automatically populated with the first part of the email address. For example, when registering on the form with no Username field, if the email address is “john@thatsite.com”, WordPress automatically makes the Username “john”.

How can I make this happen?

Hi,

Basically, WordPress requires an username. So you must provide an username.Even if, you won’t provide username field, username will be automatically populated.

But you can achieve this with some coding.
