If I set the registration option to “Need both email verification and admin approval.” my general WP settings give all new users “pending” status; and they need to be activated. However, no email verification email is sent (I have tried several accounts and checked all junk folders) to allow the user to activate the account. So, the administrator needs to both change the status to subscriber and activate the account.

If it is set at “Need admin approval.” or “Need email verification.” exactly the same thing happens.

Only “User auto activation.” gives an immediate active status.

I assume it should work as follows: Email verification = activation. Admin approval = ‘subscriber’ status.

I would be grateful if you could advise why the verification email might not be sent to allow a user to activate their account? Or why the other options do not work as expected?

If an administrator activates the account, a confirmation email is sent immediately so the email sending is working OK, in general.
