Searching users from the front end

Firstly, let me say that the plug-in has proved to be fantastic in helping me build a web site for users to sign up to different user roles (tutors and students in this case, as it’s an educational site!).

What I’d like to be able to do is to provide logged-in students with a facility to search the database of tutors, based on a variety of custom fields, such as the subject they teach, the country they’re based in, native language and a few other things. All of this data is provided by the tutors when they sign up, of course. What would be even better would be to provide a few different search forms with some fields preset (e.g. a form on page searching language tutors, and others specifically searching other academic categories) without the student having to select the category on the search form (a bit like having a hidden field on the user meta registration forms, I suppose).

Ideally, the search results would display a shortened version of the tutor’s profile, including the avatar.

The question is – does anyone have any tips on how to do it? I’ve searched for suitable plug-ins and can’t find anything, and there doesn’t seem to be much about it on this forum. Any advice will be gratefully received!

Hi,
Currently, UMP doesn’t have any feature for users listing. You could use other listing/member’s directory plugin for this.
