Make field required for user but not for admin?

Is there a way to make a field required only on the user front-end but not on the admin back-end? The only way I can figure to do it is to create two fields both mapped to the same meta key, making one optional and the other required. Just wondering if there is a quicker way. Thanks!

Sorry, but there are no other quick way. Another way is writing php code on filter or action hook.

What filters or actions do I need to use and what would the function to make this happen look like? Can you give me an example?

Side note, I think I found on the forum that there is a feature request for conditional form logic (i.e. if option A is checked then show text box B). I too would like this feature, but is there a way to do this now with filters and actions similar to above? If so, can you give me an example for this as well?

For custom required, please use our dev version from http://user-meta.com/downloads/

Then put following code to your functions.php

add_filter( 'user_meta_field_config', 'customRequired' );
function customRequired( $field ) {
    global $userMeta;
      
    if ( ! empty( $field['css_class'] ) && strpos( $field['css_class'], 'custom_required' ) !== false ) {
       $field['required'] = $userMeta->isAdmin() ? false : true;
    }
    
    return $field;
}

And go to User Meta >> Fields Editor, select field then put “custom_required” (without quotation) inside CSS Class and save changes.

For conditional field, we’ll get back soon.
