Change button text – [button_value]

I have been fooling around with hooks trying to change the text on buttons in user made custom forms using [button-value]. I can change the text on the default login button using the user_meta_default_login_form hook, but that’s all. Is there some way to use a hook to change the button text on custom form’s. I can use jQuery to do it or use a hack css solution, but I’d prefer not to. Is there some other way that someone knows of?
