Thank you!! that was the answer. I had looked in the documentation and was not able to find it. In previous versions, fields were automatically available to me to add to the back-end profile, but now they are only available if shared. I am also having a problem with groups for radio (select one) fields. While I was struggling with trying to get the field to display, I choose advanced which added a group, and once chosen the group label seems to remain even if I remove advanced mode or set it to blank. This is a minor problem, as I can delete the field and add it back.
I finally figured out I had to be logged in to download, and got version 1.1.5rc2. It is MUCH better, thank you very much. I turned redirection off. With it on, a person still shows as logged in after they logout. (They are logged out, but it is very confusing) The logout now directs them to the wordpress login screen. I would prefer to direct them to either the page they came from, but when I set up redirection, it did not properly show that they were logged out. We can live with it, it is so much better than before, but if there is a way to set it up that I am missing, please let me know.
I solved the php warning problem (by resetting the static main page first to posts and then to the desired page). Now there are no errors on the php log, but the user_meta_after_user_update is never called. The same code works in 3.7 non multisite.
