Fields Basics

There are 4 types of fields in User Meta. These are :

WordPress Default Fields:
Consisting of all WP default fields: Username, Email, Password, Website, Display Name, Nick Name, First Name, Last Name, Biographical Info, Registration Date, Role, Jabber, Aim, Yim, Avatar.

Extra Fields:
This type consisting of some really useful fields those are not included in WP by default: Textbox, Paragraph, Rich Text, Hidden Field, Drop Down, Select One(radio), Checkbox, Multi Select, Date/Time, File Upload, Image URL, Phone Number, Number, URL, Country, Custom Field.

Formatting Fields:
Consisting of 4 fields: Page Heading, Section Heading, HTML, Captcha.

Shared Fields:
Shared Fields are those which you can use in any form. You can make any fields as shared field to use it in more than one form. To make a field shared just check Make this field as shared in field’s advanced section.

 

Field Configuration:
There are two parts in every fields to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

01.Basic Configuration:
This part is to set the basic things of a field. The common things for every fields are:
Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.
Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options. You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by selecting the option Hidden.
Description: Write the description of the field, if you want. Description will be visible below the table box.

There are some other options like Placeholder, Meta key, Default Value in different fields.

02. Advanced Configuration:
This part consists of several advanced settings. Besides the options like Rules, Maximum Character, Field Size or Input Class there are two important options:
Make Field as Shared: To make any field be used in more than one form, just check Make this field as shared. If checked, the field will get a place in Shared Field list and you can use the field in any form.

Conditional Logic: If you want to show/hide a field to/from some specific user then use conditional logic option by Enabling Conditional Logic. Choose Hide or Show for the field for your given condition. Write conditions using any other field of the form, then is or is not and the value. You can add more than one condition by clicking “+” button. Choose whether All conditions need to match or Any match of them will provide you the result.

For example, We want to show a field only to the male user and hide from the others. So, we choose Show this field for following condition(s): select the created field Sex, then select is and the value Male. Now only male user can see the field.

WordPress Default Fields

Username

Field Configuration: To add Username field in a form, go to User Meta >> Forms. Add a new form or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder menu click Username from right sidebar of WordPress Default Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Username field by using this configuration panel.

There are two parts in the field to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

 

Basic Configuration:

This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Placeholder and Description.

Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.

Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options. You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by selecting the option Hidden.

Placeholder: You can set a placeholder name for this field to provide information of the field and use it in different places.
Description: Write the description of the field, if you want. Description will be visible below the table box.

Rule: You can set the field only for the admin by checking Admin Only.

Max Char: Set the limit of maximum allowed character in the field. If you want to allow maximum of 50 characters in the field then just write 50 in the box.

Field Size: Set the size of the field. For example: to make a 220px field just write 220px in the box.

Input Class: Can specify custom class for input. Write the custom class name.

Field Container Class: Can set custom class for field container. Write the custom class name.

Field Container Style: Can set custom css style for field container.

Make Field as Shared: To make this field as a shared field to use the field in any form just check Make this field as shared.

Conditional Logic: To apply conditional logic to this field Enable Conditional Logic. To know about conditional logic, read Fields Basics.

Email

Field Configuration: To add Email field in a form, go to User Meta >> Forms. Add a new form or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder menu click Email from right sidebar of WordPress Default Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Email field by using this configuration panel.

There are two parts in the field to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

 

Basic Configuration:
This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Placeholder and Description.
Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.
Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options.
You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by

Re-type Email: You can force user to enter email address twice. To do this, just check Retype Email. There will be a new option named Retype Label. Put a name of the retype label. If the two email don’t match, then there will be an error text.

Generated Field:

For these setup, the generated field will be like below:

Required and Unique Validation: By default, Email field is required and unique validation is automatically activated when this field is used in form. That means, user must fill up this field and Email should be unique and valid. If user does not fill up the field or Email has already taken then there will be error messages.

Password

Field Configuration: To add Password field in a form, go to User Meta >> Forms. Add a new form or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder menu click Password from right sidebar of WordPress Default Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Password field by using this configuration panel.

Required validation will be applied automatically when password field is being used for registration.

There are two parts in the field to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

 

Basic Configuration:

This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Placeholder, Description, Pattern, Error Text, Retyping Password, Password Strength Meter Retype Label and Requirement of current password.
Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.
Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options.
You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by
selecting the option Hidden.
Placeholder: You can set a placeholder name for this field to provide information of the
field and use it in different places.
Description: Write the description of the field, if you want. Description will be visible under the table box.

*Pattern: You can specify a pattern for the password. Only the passwords match with the pattern will be valid then. By this, you can force users to set their password in your given way.

For example: [a-zA-Z0-9]+ , this pattern is indicating alpha-numeric entry.

^(?=.*\d)\w+$ , with this pattern any alphabets are allowed but no special characters and password must contains at least one digit.

These patterns are also called Regex(Regular Expression).

Error Text will be shown, if the password does not match with the given pattern.

Retype Password: To enable the option of re-typing the same password for confirmation, just check Retype Password. If enabled, there will be a new option named Retype Label. Put a label text there.

The generated retype password field is required. There will be error messages if the field remains blank or the two passwords do not match.

Password Strength Meter: To use password strength meter, check Show password strength meter. Password strength will appear beside the password box.

Current password is required: Check Current password is required, if you want to force user provide his/her current password to change or update existing password.

If Current Password and New Password don’t match there will be an error message.

Advanced Configuration:

This part consists of Rule, Max Char, Field Size, Input Class, Field Container Class, Field Container Style, Make the Field as Shared and Conditional Logic.

Rule: You can set rule Admin Only.

Max Char: Set the limit of maximum allowed character in the field. If you want to allow maximum of 30 characters in the field then just write 30 in the box.

Field Size: Set the size of the field. For example: to make a 200px field just write 200px in the box.

Input Class: Can specify custom class for input. Write the custom class name.

Field Container Class: Can set custom class for field container. Write the custom class name.

Field Container Style: Can set custom css style for field container.

Make Field as Shared: To make this field as a shared field to use the field in any form just check Make this field as shared.

Website

Biographical Info

In the Form Builder menu click Biographical Info from right sidebar of WordPress Default Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Biographical Info field by using this configuration panel.

There are two parts in the field to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

 

Basic Configuration:

This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Placeholder, Description and Requirement of the field.

Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options.

Field Size: Set the size of the field. For example: to make a 400px field just write 400px; in the box.

Field Height: Set the Height of the field. For example: to make a field with the height of 200px just write 200px; in the box.

Role

Field Configuration: To add Role field in a form, go to User Meta >> Forms. Add a new form or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder menu click Role from right sidebar of WordPress Default Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Role field by using this configuration panel.

There are two parts in the field to configure. These are: basic & advanced.

 

Basic Configuration:

This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Description, Allowed Roles, Default Roles, Role Selection Type and Requirement of the field.
Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.
Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options.
You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by
selecting the option Hidden.
Description: Write the description of the field, if you want. Description will be visible
under the field box.

Allowed Roles: Choose allowed roles from Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber. You can select all the roles by clicking Select all. Also can give the option of No role defined.

Default Role: Choose a default role so that the role will be assigned to user even if they don’t select one. Default role should be one of the allowed roles.

Role Selection Type: Choose a role selection type from Dropdown, Select One (radio) and Hidden based on your wish and need.

Required: Check Required if you want the field must to be filled.

This part consists of Rule, Field Size, Input Class, Field Container Class, Field Container Style, Make the Field as Shared and Conditional Logic.

Multi Select

Field Configuration: To add Multi Select field in a form, go to User Meta >> Forms. Add a new form or edit an existing one. In the Form Builder menu click Multi Select from right sidebar of Extra Fields section. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure your Multi Select field by using this configuration panel.

 

Basic Configuration:

This part consists of Field Label, Label Position, Description, Meta Key, Default Value, Field’s Options, Requirement of the field and Line Break.
Field Label: Set the field’s name whatever you want.
Label Position: Set where the name of the field will be visible. There are several options.
You can place it at Top, Left, Right, Inline or Placeholder. You can even hide the name by
selecting the option Hidden.
Description: Write the description of the field, if you want. Description will be visible
under the field box.

Meta Key: Use meta key to save field’s data. Without defining the meta key, field data won’t be saved.This is unique identification key for field. E.g. language (unique and no space).

 

Options & Advanced mode: Write down the options for the multi select field. ‘L’ is for label of the option. Add more options with ‘+‘ button and to delete existing option use ‘‘. Value for a specific option will be the same as the label unless Advanced  mode is activated and different value is written.

Can set a default value by clicking the circle (beside your preferred option) so the field will have the value even if it is ignored.

In Advanced mode you can classify options by different groups. Create groups by naming them and place them with drag and drop procedure. Activate these options by checking Advanced mode.

Required: Check Required if you want the field must to be filled.

Date Format: You can set a date format. Use yy, mm, dd for year, month and day respectively and make any format you wish. By default, it is yy-mm-dd. For example, if you want a format like date/month/year then just write dd/mm/yy.

Year Range: Can set year range for the field. By default, it is 1950 to current what is written as 1950:c. Here first part is representing from, last part is representing to and c is for current date. For example, if you want a year range 1900 to 2000 then just write 1900:2000.

Required: Check Required if you want the field must to be filled.

Formatting Fields

Page Heading

HTML

Field Configuration: To produce non-editable field, it’s the best way to use HTML field. Provide any field’s data in the field with the help of field’s placeholder.

To make a HTML field, go to User Meta >> Fields Editor and click HTML from right sidebar. Then you will have a configuration panel. Configure the field by using this configuration panel ( img-01 ).
